The DAIHATSU MD-SX Sensor Unit is a crankcase-mounted oil mist detection sensor developed for continuous monitoring of oil mist concentration inside marine diesel engines.
The MD-SX system uses multiple individual sensors installed directly through the engine crankcase side wall. These sensors communicate with a central controller, allowing the system to monitor each detection point continuously.
If abnormal bearing heating or another engine problem causes the crankcase oil mist concentration to increase above the configured level, the system provides an alarm for early warning of potentially serious engine damage.

The MD-SX differs from conventional centralized oil mist detector designs because the sensor units are inserted directly through the crankcase side wall.

Inspect the communication cable, connections, terminals and sensor/controller communication arrangement.
Sensor contamination, incorrect installation or a damaged sensor can affect measurement. The sensor should be inspected and cleaned according to the manufacturer's procedure.
A repeated alarm should not automatically be assumed to be a faulty sensor. Actual engine crankcase conditions, bearings and other potential sources of abnormal heating should be investigated.
Regularly inspect the MD-SX sensor and its wiring. Keep the optical sensing area clean according to the manufacturer's maintenance procedure, inspect connectors for oil or corrosion, verify sensor status indications and test the complete OMD system according to vessel maintenance requirements.
